TERNUL005 - Larrge - Doppler

A. Larrge - Doppler
B. Larrge - Doppler (Bombardier Remix)

Out August 18th, 2014

The fifth offering from Terra Null Recordings does well to remind us of the infinite possibilities that exist within electronic music. Here the label offers two tracks with as much contrast night and day or black and white, and yet they both somehow originate from the same set of sounds. In this, the “Doppler” EP furthers Terra Null’s exploration into new and unexplored territories. The EP’s title track “Doppler” comes to us from DnB veteran Carlos Cardoso aka Larrge, out of Seville, Spain. It cleanliness and precision reminiscent of a finely crafted machine which quickly and meticulously performs its predefined set of functions with ease. The beat drives home methodically and with a great sense of purpose, only breaking occasionally to let out a howling reese bass, as if it were scraping a rusted metal arm across its chest announcing its readiness to begin the next section of work. It is a precision and polish that is a rare find in any kind of music, and allows the track to firmly stand out on its own. On the flip side, American born Jason Snell aka Bombardier gives his take on “Doppler” and does what few remixers ever manage to do, in that he has taken the original track, flipped it upside-down and presented something truly special. A remix whose relation to the original is more of a distant-relative rather than a nearly identical twin, Bombardier’s remix careens up and down the frequency spectrum like a bird of prey hunting up and down a mountainside. It is a track that can barely be put into words and must be heard to be believed. The experimentation presented in Bombardier’s remix push almost every envelope imaginable, challenging what we typically think a remix should be. The stark contrast of methodical precision and sporadic experimentalism represented in Terra Null’s fifth release firmly underscore the mission of the label to push the envelope, which it accomplishes here with such ferocity that as the EP comes to a close, perceptions are sure to be challenged in the best possible way.
