“Do you ever get the feeling you were meant to do something extraordinary?”

As the question rings out during the intro of Natural Selection, one of four cuts on Epilleptech’s Nyctophobia EP, you can’t help but get the feeling that extraordinary is just where Epilleptech may be headed. With the third installment of the Terra Null sound, the label witnesses a return to the deep and dark realm of drum and bass halfstep. Uniquely curated by Epilleptech, an up-and-coming American dnb producer, Nyctophobia EP is as contemplative as it is brash. It is said that Nyctophobia is triggered by the brain’s disfigured perception of what would or could happen when in a dark environment. Such environment materializes immediately upon hearing the title track’s swirling textures matched against its beastly growling basslines. Not something to be trifled with. The EP’s second track Natural Selection quickly follows suit, only to be relieved by Peru, the EP’s third track, which for a brief moment brings you above the clouds and out of the dark. Rounding off the EP is Premonition, perhaps the hardest hitting of the four tracks, whose percussion and deep bass will keep you on your toes until the moment the EP finally lays down to rest. Expect big things from Epilleptech in the future as his debut EP already borders on the edge of extraordinary, and points steadily upwards.
